Like many business owners, this central Orange County Business Owner only wants to have an old fashioned land line.  Since he has free long distance on his cell phone, the line only can call other phone numbers in the local area and receive calls.  The owner who wishes to remain anonymous explained.  “I just wanted a phone line for my business.  When I called ATT they kept taking me over to the cell phone department, but this is a land line.  When I finally got through, I was told that the only way I could lower the cost of my land line was if I leased four tablets for my employees.  But I am a one-man business. Why would I want to play with four tablets all day long.  They just try to get you for everything they can.”

(see photo of bill) The cost of a ATT Landline is almost $1,000/year.  Assuming the monthly fees stay the same it’s $99780/year.  Based on the previous amount of $39.81/month or $477.72/year that’s an increase of 109%.

We tried to reach out to ATT but were unable to connect with anyone who could explain these increases.

update: We received another notice from the same business owner.  The cost of a single line from ATT has gone up to $91.18/month.  That comes out to $1094/year.  Single phone line, no long distance, no internet, no tv or other services.

Montessori Students Celebrates Orange County’s Cultural Diversity


Montessori Students Celebrate Lunar New Year

 FULLERTON, CA – Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy has invited the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office to celebrate Lunar New Year with its students in the Dual-Language and Trilingual (English, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese) Programs on January 26, 2017, from 8:45 am to 9:30 am. The American-born students, growing up in English-speaking families, will not only be able to say “Happy New Year!” in pure Chinese, but will also do so with the traditional bow and correct hand gestures. Guests will be treated to two songs, both in Mandarin Chinese, entitled “Jasmine” and “Congratulations” – the traditional New Year song and also be able to observe class in session.

Arborland started its Chinese-English dual-language program in August 2015 with a mixed-age class of 3-6 year olds. The idea of the program is to fully immerse the child in both languages, one teacher communicating in English, and another in Chinese. If the children are unable to understand a particular Chinese expression, the teacher will supplement words with body language. This method is in line with Dr. Maria Montessori’s teaching that before the age of 6, children absorb any language in their daily environment, and can easily learn multiple languages effortlessly.

 With only a year into the program, the children have made great strides in fully understanding the Chinese language. They respond with the correct Chinese words, use Chinese expressions as part of their daily communication, and recognize and write some Chinese characters. Students of the Arborland dual-language program are taught directly to use Chinese characters, without phonetic notations. They are even taught the correct stroke orders of each character, an important skill usually learned at a later age.

 As the children move up in grade level, the program has also been extended to the elementary classroom.  Students from ages 6 to 9 started their trilingual program August 2016, learning Spanish, Chinese, and English. With their deepening knowledge of the Chinese language, it follows that the children have also developed a strong interest in the Chinese culture. They ask questions like, “Is there a Chinese Christmas?”, “What is the Chinese zodiac?”, and are very eager to learn more.

 The Arborland students are very eager to share everything they have learned in the last one and a half years, and we are extending this invitation to everyone who wishes to partake in this learning journey with them.

School Celebrates Annual International Culture Day

Arborland Montessori Children’s Academy has been celebrating International Culture Day every spring for over 25 years. In the weeks leading up to the big day, students from toddlers to 6th Grade learn all about a specific region of the world and its customs, traditions, ecology, history, and more. For the children and teachers, it is the culmination of weeks of preparation and study of different continents and their wealth of cultures with learning opportunities.  On the day itself, there is great excitement as each class presents a small part of what they have learned in a short recitation, song, or dance routine. Everyone attempts to reflect the country they are representing with their music, songs and dance and also in their outfits for the day. Parents are encouraged to take part and provide culinary delights from the country their child is representing. In the words of the children, “It’s a blast!” It’s an international carnival, a fiesta, a day to show off in front of parents and friends. We would like to welcome our community to join us for a fun day of song and dance, delicious food, and a passport game that takes players around the world in 60 minutes (or less)!

Organizers of the 13th annual U.S. Bank OC Marathon are thrilled to announce the addition of the “Corporate Challenge” to this year’s world-class event that spans three races in two days: the Wahoo’s OC 5K, the half marathon and the full marathon. The OC Marathon Corporate Challenge (or OCMCC) is an extraordinary opportunity for businesses of all sizes to go head-to-head in friendly competition and reap immeasurable benefits along the road: improved employee fitness and overall workplace wellness, a swell of company goodwill through fundraising, increased business branding and positive exposure in the community, not to mention a truly memorable time as a team! In its 13th year, the U.S. Bank OC Marathon and Half Marathon (May 7, 2017) welcomes runners from more than 20 countries and all 50 states. The course is considered one of the best destination races on the West Coast with its diverse terrain, changing vistas and majestic ocean views beginning in Newport Beach, CA, traversing four Orange County cities and finishing with the Ultimate Finish Line Festival at the OC Fair and Event Center. With a goal of $1,000,000, the U.S. Bank OC Marathon is on pace to post its biggest year yet.

Dr. Estelle Toby Goldstein M.D. Veteran of the US Army and a former Medical School Professor Joins New Day Psychotherapy Group in Brea, CA.

 Brea, California  Estelle Toby Goldstein, M.D., officially joins New Day Psychotherapy Group’s roster of clinicians at the new location in Brea according to Milagros Saxon, PhD, CEO at New Day. Her first day of practice in the new office will be Thursday, November 17th.

The new office at 3350 E. Birch St. Suite 206, Brea, CA 92821 expands the New Day practice, which is based in Cypress and also operates a clinic in Pasadena.

Dr. Goldstein brings over 35 years of medical experience to the practice, including 25 years as a psychiatrist. She attended medical school in France and lived in that country for seven years before returning to the US for specialty training in the fields of general and orthopedic surgery, and later, neurological surgery. She also did fellowships in neurology and psychopharmacology with experience in drug development. She is a lifetime Diplomat of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.

She formerly operated a solo private practice in San Diego from 2003 to 2009 where she concentrated on natural alternative psychiatry as well as standard medication and psychotherapy. Her practice was a valued community resource for the GLBT patients of San Diego County and she attended transgendered clients during their transitions.
