Underground Dance Company Helps Youth in Laguna Hills
Joining the fight against child exploitation in youth & performing arts.
Laguna Hills, California Underground Dance Company is the newest commercial dance studio in the Orange County community of Laguna Hills. Underground Dance Company aims to provide children with a safe environment to explore their artistic abilities, increase their physical fitness, and promote self-confidence through positive body imagery. The dance studio will offer dance instruction in ballet, tap, hip-hop, jazz, contemporary, breakdancing, and creative movement for children and adults.
With a growing number of children in dance being exposed to inappropriate music, dance attire, and sexualized dance movements, Underground Dance Company is taking a stand against these emerging negative trends in the dance industry. Recent research show that youth in dance are routinely exposed to inappropriate music, costume attire, & sexualized dance movements which can be detrimental to their mental and emotional health. These dangerous trends also often lead to anorexia, bulimia, and sexual abuse.
Classes, music, choreography, and costume dance attire will be in line with the guidelines set forth by Y.P.A.D. (Youth Protection Advocates in Dance). With the opening of the new Laguna Hills studio location, Underground Dance Company has joined the Y.P.A.D. advocacy group. Y.P.A.D is coalition of concerned parents, industry leaders, dancers, choreographers, and studio owners who started this movement in the dance world as a response to the repeated and increased amount of sexual abuse, hyper-sexualization, and inappropriate physical exertion that leads to unnecessary injuries.
Underground Dance Company is currently offering summer dance camps and grand opening event on August 6th from 9am – 12pm. Their dance season will run from August 2016 – June 2017. Look out for their performances in the Lake Forest 4th of July Parade and at the OC Fair on July 16th. Enrolling now for youth and adults.
